Doral Billiards in Miami played host to the KF Cue Tour on January 10-11th. A strong 32 players showed up at the Open Event for a shot at the $2270 purse that was offered. John Foster went through a quality field undefeated to win his first KF Cue Tour event and the $700 prize.

Open Winner John Foster

Foster kicked off the day with a win over Ed Kiess 9-7. His next match was against local high-rated player Raymond Linares. Foster managed to squeak out a 9-8 win over Linares, whose game is improving all the time. Foster went on to score wins over Richard Broumpton 9-5, Curtis Kelley 9-6, and a 9-5 win over John Rouse to take the hot seat match.

On the one loss side, point’s leader Julio Aquino was showing why he is #1 in the rankings. Aquino dropped his first match on the day to Manuel Menes 9-7. He went on to avenge this loss, beating Manuel Menes' son Manny Menes 7-0. He followed this with wins over Bobby Livrago 7-2, Wylie Ball 7-2, Hunter Lombardo 7-2, and David Uwate 7-6, before taking a 7-6 loss to Curtis Kelley. Kelley’s win was short-lived, however, as Anthony Meglino knocked him out with a 7-5 win.

Meglino now faced Rouse for a shot in the final. Rouse came out firing in this match to take a 6-2 lead. Meglino dug deep and grinded his way back into the match to tie it at 6-6. Rouse got his chance and took the match 7-6.

Both players in the final agreed to play one short race to 7 due to the time. Foster, ever the fighter, came from 6-5 down to win the last 2 racks and take the final match.

Sunday's $700 Amateur Event kicked of with 26 players and a total purse of $1400.

Javier Chirino was the man to beat on the day. Javier provided 6 trophies for this event, and liked them so much he decided to take the one that read Champion home with him. Javier went through the field undefeated with wins over Felipe Carabello 7-6, points leader Mike Delawder 7-4, Trey Jankowski 7-4, and David Uwate 7-5, putting him in the hot seat match where he would face off against 14 year old Danny Satinoff.

Danny Satinoff, Tony Crosby, & Amateur winner Javier Chirino

A Junior player, Danny Satinoff, at only 14 years of age was the surprise package of the event, playing a high level of impressive pool for the entire tournament. Satinoff made his way through to the hot seat match with impressive wins over Ray O Connor 7-2, Nick Spivey 7-1, and Patrick Richards 7-4. In the hot seat match, however, Chirino took advantage of any mistakes Satinoff made, and won the match 7-4.

Satinoff next faced Ted Lepak, who had made his way to the one loss side final with wins over Bruce Pou 5-1, Angel Chirino 5-3, David Uwate 5-4 and Patrick Richards 5-2. Satinoof started the match with a blowout 4-0 lead, only to see Lepak dig deep and take the next 4 racks. In the final game, Satinoff ran out a very tough rack for the win and a shot at Chirino for the title.

Chirino started out the final match with a strong 5-1 lead, only to see Satinoff rattle off the next 3 racks. And just when it looked like he was going to win the 4th rack in a row to tie the match, Satinoff missed an easy 9 ball to give Chirino a 6-4 lead. The 11th rack proved be the nail in the coffin for Satinoff, as he ran another very tough rack only to miss 9 ball again, and send all the momentum to Chirino, who finished the match 9-4.
