The $700 Added Amateur event drew in a very talented 49 player field at Stroker’s in Palm Harbor. The tours first season is coming to a close, which means all players are fighting for the points to receive the player of the year award to be given out at this years Finale. We would see points leader Albert Howe crashing out of the tournament in the early rounds with defeats to Dan Lavoie 7-1 and then Jimmie Hines 5-3. This would open the door for Mark Wathen joint points leader to try and jump ahead.

Amateur Event Winner Dan Whitten
While all the points leaders were fighting for leverage local player Dan Whitten was quietly taking care of business going through the field undefeated with notable wins over Bobby Moore 7-0, and a 7-2 match win over Mike Delawder to give himself the hotseat. Bobby Moore would battle with strong wins over Mark Wathen 5-2, Jeff Mabry 5-3 and a win over Mike Delawder 5-2 to put himself in a rematch final with Dan Whitten.
On the day we would see some players fighting back after losing their first round match. Julio Del Pozo who lost his first match to Jeff Mabry would go on a rampage on the one-loss side winning 6 straight matches in a row before running back into Mabry who would send him home in 7/8th place. Jeff Mabry who was having a great tournament also stopped Dave Palmieri in his tracks, as Palmieri lost his first match and then went on to win 4 matches until running into Mabry.
The final would see Whitten coming out strong with a 4-0 lead on Moore but Moore was far from defeated. He would battle back to 5-3 down and then eventually tie the match up at 6-6. That would be as close as Moore would come as Whitten would take the match with some clinical safeties and run outs. This is a great win for Dan Whitten as he battled it out with one of the toughest fields of the season.
We had several talented lady players come out and play for the Top Lady prize: Michell Monk, Cassidy Mulligan, Nicole Winters and Jessica Barnes.
